R.M.S. Titanic Diorama
This diorama of the R.M.S. Titanic depicts the doomed ocean liner just after it hit the iceberg in April of 1912. An eerily lifelike representation of that fateful night, the band plays on, ice chunks appear on the deck and people scramble for space in the lifeboats that are available. Lighting done by the museum brings the scene to life. Commissioned by the American Marine Model Gallery for the Ships of the Sea Museum in Savannah, Georgia. The ship and lifeboats were made by Steve Henninger and the people, ice and water were crafted by William E. Hitchcock. Read about this model in the January 3, 1999 issue of Savannah Now newspaper. Some of the images can be enlarged when you click on them. The rest are in the process of being scanned in.
